Wonderland
From: Alice in Wonderland(1951)
A world that opens in a room that shrinks and stretches, where the rules do not hold. It is where the series first teaches you what stepping into a Disney film feels like.
UNOFFICIAL FAN SITE
Worlds built on Disney and Pixar films, and the ones this series invented, each with the games you can visit them in. Release order is the smoother route through the story — but coming in through a world you love is its own way to play.
Grouped by title, and split inside each into worlds from the films and the series’ own. A world that appears in several games is listed under each of them.
Images are used under Square Enix's KINGDOM HEARTS video and image posting guidelines, for personal, non-commercial use, and come from the official game sites. All rights remain with their holders. Removal requests are honoured promptly. KINGDOM HEARTS III and HD 2.8 use screenshots from the official sites. No official site publishes imagery for the other worlds, so those came from elsewhere. Where each one came from is recorded in a public ledger, so a removal request can be acted on precisely.
49 worlds

From: Alice in Wonderland(1951)
A world that opens in a room that shrinks and stretches, where the rules do not hold. It is where the series first teaches you what stepping into a Disney film feels like.

From: Hercules(1997)
The arena world. It carries story, but it is also the series' standing place to test yourself — and it turns up in very nearly every title.

From: Tarzan(1999)
A jungle from Tarzan, crossed by sliding between the trees. It appears in the first game only; no reason for its absence since has been given officially.

From: Aladdin(1992)
A desert city and the cave beneath it. In some entries the magic carpet becomes something you actually ride.

From: Pinocchio(1940)
The inside of an enormous whale, treated as a world in its own right — one of the few that is entirely interior.

From: The Little Mermaid(1989)
The underwater world, and the one that changes character most between games — in KH2 it is a musical with no combat at all.

From: The Nightmare Before Christmas(1993)
The world that restyles Sora and company into it. KH2 adds Christmas Town alongside it, and you move between the two.

From: Peter Pan(1953)
A pirate ship and the sky above it — and, in the first game, the place where flight opens up.

From: Winnie the Pooh(1977)
A storybook you step into, with no combat in it. The tenser the series gets, the more this one earns its place.

The island Sora and his friends grew up on. Everything starts here, and it keeps coming back — not as a place to fight, but as the place to get back to.

The town people wash up in when their world is gone. Sora's first landfall in the first game, and a base you return to over and over.

The castle the first game builds toward. A remarkable share of the series' pivotal events happen here.

A realm filled with darkness, distinct from the realm of light. Fragments of worlds it swallowed drift through it, and Heartless are born there. Nearly all of 0.2 Birth by Sleep takes place in it.

The castle Chain of Memories takes place in, running on a rule where memory gets less reliable the deeper you go.

From: The Mickey Mouse shorts
Donald and Goofy's home. Only a couple of titles ever let you visit it.

From: Steamboat Willie(1928)
Inside a black-and-white short from the 1920s. Screen and characters both drop to monochrome — visually the strangest world in the series.

From: Mulan(1998)
Mountains and the imperial city, structured as a march you simply join.

From: Beauty and the Beast(1991)
A castle you explore room by room. The Beast has been around since KH1, but the castle itself is a KH2 world.

From: Pirates of the Caribbean(2003)
The first world drawn from a live-action film, and famous for how sharply its character models differ from everything around them.

From: The Lion King(1994)
Sora and company go four-legged, and the controls change with them. Running the savannah is the point.

From: Tron(1982)
The inside of a computer — and unusually for a Disney world, one wired directly into a location the series owns.

The same place as Hollow Bastion. Why it has two names is itself part of the story, so it is not spelled out here.

A town permanently at sunset. KH2 opens by spending hours here, and it is the most lived-in place in the series.

Yen Sid's tower. You stop here at the turns of the story and leave knowing what to do next.

The city the black-coated organisation works out of, under permanent night. Their castle stands at the far end, and a heart-shaped moon hangs over it.

From: Cinderella(1950)
The night of the ball, with a stretch where you shrink and work your way through the house.

From: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs(1937)
The world of Disney's first feature. Forest and mine, on foot.

From: Sleeping Beauty(1959)
The world that contains Maleficent's keep — unavoidable when talking about the series' villains.

From: Lilo & Stitch(2002)
The interior of a starship. Starting aboard rather than in Hawaii is what makes this one interesting.

From: The Mickey Mouse shorts
A fairground of a world, built around minigames. As far from the plot's tension as the series gets.

Where Birth by Sleep's three trained. Their story starts here.

A wasteland stuck full of Keyblades. It appears across several titles as the evidence of something that happened long ago.

From: The Hunchback of Notre Dame(1996)
A cathedral and its rooftops, and a world remembered for how much of it is vertical.

From: Pinocchio(1940)
A dream world drawn from Pinocchio, taking in a funfair and the inside of a whale. Same source as Monstro, but not a return to the same place.

From: Tron: Legacy(2010)
A digital world from Tron: Legacy, light cycles included. The film is a sequel to Tron, but what Sora finds does not match the Space Paranoids he remembers — and that mismatch is the story.

From: Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers(2004)
A storybook world where Mickey, Donald and Goofy are the leads — a rare chance to see the three of them treated head-on.

From: Fantasia(1940)
A world whose terrain is the music. How much this series cares about its score, made literal.

The town of the χ era — the oldest period the series shows you people living in.

From: Hercules(1997)
Hercules as a full landscape — mountain and city, not just the arena. KH3 opens here.

From: Toy Story(1995)
The series' first Pixar world, and Sora and company become toys inside it.

From: Tangled(2010)
Forest, then a town of rising lanterns. Of KH3's worlds, the one most often praised for how it looks.

From: Monsters, Inc.(2001)
The factory floor and what lies past the doors, written as a sequel to the film.

From: Frozen(2013)
A climb up a snow mountain, with sliding down the ice as the way you move.

From: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End(2007)
Sail your own ship between islands. It draws mainly on At World's End, so it is not a revisit of Port Royal, which took the first film.

From: Big Hero 6(2014)
A night city you cross by running up the buildings — where KH3's traversal is at its best.

From: Wreck-It Ralph(2012)
In KH3 this is the doorway to the minigames rather than a story world. Where it is actually played is Union χ, which goes on to Niceland and the Candy Kingdom.

A city of stacked towers and waterways. It also turns up in the KINGDOM HEARTS IV trailers.

A city that looks like a real modern one, and KINGDOM HEARTS IV's main setting. KH3 only gestures at it — the secret footage and Re Mind — and it becomes a place you go from KH4 onward.
